Expressway tolls will cost more come Tuesday
Toll hikes on the Atlantic City Expressway will go into effect 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, the South Jersey Transportation Authority announced Friday.
Tolls will increase at all Expressway ramps and toll plazas. All ramps that are currently 25 cents will increase to 40 cents, and ramps that are 50 cents will jump to 75 cents.
The fee at the Egg Harbor toll plaza will increase from $2 to $3.
The estimated $205 million generated from the toll increase will be used to fund regional transportation projects, the SJTA said, including widening the Expressway between the Garden State Parkway and Route 73; Berlin-Cross Keys Bridge widening; other bridge and roadway improvements; and Atlantic City International Airport improvement projects.
Plans for a “tourism discount” were also announced. E-ZPass users traveling eastbound through the Pleasantville and Egg Harbor toll plazas between 5 and 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday through May 2009 will receive a 25 percent toll rate reduction.
The discount is intended to promote tourism in the Atlantic County region, as well as urge travelers to take advantage of the ease and convenience of E-ZPass and new E-ZPass-on-the-Go Tags.
The frequent user plan for New Jersey E-ZPass tag holders will continue. For those who use their E-ZPass tag at least 30 times during a 35-day period, the discount will be applied for the next 35 days. Keep using it, and the discount will continue. Users must sign up for the Expressway program when they enroll or by calling the customer service center at (888) AUTO TOLL (288-6865).
E-ZPass-on-the-Go-Tags are available at the Frank S. Farley Service Plaza and the Atlantic City Visitors Center on the Atlantic City Expressway.
E-Z Pass is also accepted at most SJTA automated parking facilities.
