Contents of Treo to be auctioned

LINWOOD – An auction has been scheduled to sell the entire contents of the former Treo Restaurant here.

The restaurant in the Cornerstone Commerce Center closed June 24, citing the economy and factors outside the owners’ control. With the city’s only liquor license, Treo had opened in early November 2007 after the departure of Bookbinder’s.

Ed Barkowitz, senior auctioneer for Associated Auctioneers in Philadelphia, said he was contacted to organize the auction. Thousands of items will be up for bid, he said, ranging from silverware and dishes to bar fixtures, cooking equipment and decorations.

Those interested in bidding must pay a refundable $100 for the opportunity to bid.

Barkowitz said bidders will set the starting prices for the sales.

“It could start at $1 or $100, but everything will be sold off,” he said.

The auctioneer said that many of the items for sale are only about a year old and that $4 million had been spent on renovations.

“It’s a sign of the times,” Barkowitz said. “We are doing 10 times the business we did this time last year.”

He said the company has been receiving a lot of inquiries about the Treo auction.

The auction begins 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the restaurant, 1201 New Road.

In the next few days information on the items up for bid will be posted online at www.associatedauctioneers.com.
