DWI crackdown planned Friday night
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – An impaired driver enforcement crackdown will be conducted by the Egg Harbor Township Police Department between 9 p.m. and 3 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept. 20 in the westbound lane of the Black Horse Pike between Tilton Road and Uibel Avenue.
The summer season, which is coming to a close, is traditionally a time of social gatherings, which often include alcohol. Police said the goal of this checkpoint is to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and provide high-visibility enforcement of DWI laws.
Officers will have zero tolerance for motorists who decide to drive while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Impaired drivers kill nearly 18,000 people on our nation’s road each year. In New Jersey, 39 percent of the motor vehicle fatalities are alcohol-related.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that nearly 97 percent of Americans view drinking by others as a threat to their families and themselves.
