Suspect jailed in Sun Bank robbery

NORTHFIELD –Douglas Kissel of Bloomfield, Township, Essex County, has been arrested in connection with the robbery of the Sun Bank branch at Tilton Road and Cresson Avenue in Northfield Wednesday, Sept. 3, Northfield Police Chief Robert James announced.
Kissel was arrested Saturday afternoon in his room at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City by members of the Northfield Police Department's Criminal Investigations Bureau, the Atlantic City Police Department and the New Jersey State Police Casino Investigations Unit, police said.
Aided by information received from the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, detectives had been searching for a late- model Nissan Maxima that had been stolen in Atlantic City two weeks ago, according to reports. The vehicle was recovered late Friday evening by Atlantic City police. Northfield detectives discovered evidence that linked the car to Kissel and his whereabouts.
Police said that at the time of the arrest, Kissel was wearing clothing that he used in the Northfield bank robbery. He was taken into custody without incident.
Northfield detectives later executed a search warrant at the hotel room and uncovered more evidence of the Northfield bank robbery.
Kissel was charged with the bank robbery on a warrant issued by Municipal Court Judge Henry Broome. Bail was set at $120,000 full cash. He has been lodged in the Atlantic County jail.
James said the arrest was a team effort by the patrol division and criminal investigation bureau, with assistance provided by the FBI Atlantic City Resident Office, the Atlantic City Police Department, New Jersey State Police, and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department and the Absecon Police Department.
The Northfield investigation was handled by Detectives Michael Buccafurni and William Ward.
