Beach barbecues permitted Labor Day weekend
Barbecues will be permitted on Ventnor beaches Sunday, Aug. 30 through Monday, Sept. 1. No fire pits are allowed. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Council may extend boardwalk biking hours
The city commissioners introduced an ordinance Thursday, Aug. 21 to extend bicycle riding to all daylight hours on weekdays from July 1 to Labor Day. On weekends July 1 to Labor Day, bike riding would be permitted 6 a.m. to noon.
Bike riding is currently allowed 6 a.m. to noon and 5 to 7 p.m. May 31 to Labor Day and during daylight hours in the off season.
The move is in response to request made at the monthly workshop session July 10.
A second reading and public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18. The next workshop session is 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11.
Restrictions lifted on back bay
Friday, Aug. 22
Commissioner Stephen Weintrob announced Friday, Aug. 22 that water samples taken around West Canal, also known as the Mile Stretch, have been tested and show water quality has returned to safe levels.
Eight sites were tested from Ski Beach through the West Canal to Jackson Avenue.
“It is once again safe to enjoy the activities associated with the Ventnor bays, including swimming, crabbing, fishing and boating and we will be removing the temporary prohibition signs,” Weintrob said Friday.
