Three suspects sought in taxicab robbery

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – A taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint by three men the evening of Sunday, June 29 in the township’s Cardiff section.

The EHT Taxi Cab Company driver contacted police around 9:30 p.m.

The victim, a 31-year-old man, reported that two men he picked up at Independence Trail brandished handguns and had him stop after a short distance. They demanded money and cell phones while one of them held a gun to his head.

After the driver stopped the cab and turned over a small amount of cash and two cell phones, a black man wearing a hooded sweatshirt approached the driver's side door, brandished a handgun and demanded money.

After being told the victim did not have any more cash, the man searched the driver and found nothing more. All three men left the area on foot, leaving the taxi driver uninjured.

The two men in the cab are described as dark-skinned black males wearing T-shirts. One of the men is approximately 5 feet 8 inches in height, 150 pounds, about 16 to 19 years of age, clean-shaven with a short afro-style haircut. The taxi driver could not provide a further description of the second man.

The suspects were all last seen walking on Constitution Drive toward Reega Avenue.

The incident is being investigated by Officer Michelle Fromal.
