Two suspects wanted in Econo Lodge holdup

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Police are looking for two male suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery at the Econo Lodge on the Black Horse Pike Friday, June 20 in the Cardiff section of the township.

The employee victims, a 66-year-old male and a 21-year-old female, told Officer Christopher Leary that two black males, one of whom was armed with a handgun, jumped the front desk counter and forced them to the back office, where their hands were tied behind their backs.

Police said the employees were eventually able to free themselves and called police, who arrived at 11:52 p.m. Friday night.

The first suspect was described as a 5-foot-11-inch black male, wearing a yellow hooded jacket, white gloves, blue jeans, black sneakers, a white bandana around his face, black sunglasses with sparkle rims and a black skullcap.

The second suspect was described as a 5-foot-10-inch black male, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, black sneakers, white gloves, and a black bandana.

Employees said a small black-colored handgun was displayed during the robbery.

The suspects escaped with an undetermined amount of cash stolen from the business and from one of the employees.

The vehicle used in this incident is described as a maroon Chevrolet Camaro with New Jersey tag number 7870DG.  Police said this vehicle was stolen from the parking lot of the Outback Steakhouse earlier in the evening.

A white male with blond hair may also have been driving the vehicle.

Officers James Naylor, Richard Vogt, Patrick Daly, Christopher Berry and William Loder all participated in a search for the suspects. A K-9 unit from Galloway Township also responded to the scene to assist.

This case is being investigated by Detective John Heim.
