One arrest, one sought following assault, robbery at Heathercroft

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – A man accused of an armed robbery and aggravated assault at the Heathercroft Condominiums Friday turned himself in to authorities Saturday.

A 27-year-old male victim told Officers Louis Poletis, John Dowd and Richard Vogt that he was pistol-whipped by the male suspect after an incident 6 a.m. Friday, June 20.

After an investigation conducted by Detectives Fred Spano and Heath Per, a warrant was issued for the arrest of James Growalt, 25, of Atlantic City June 21.

The victim had been staying with a 24-year-old female in her condo when he heard the doorbell, which was answered by the woman.

The suspect allegedly forced his way past the woman and assaulted the man, who was pistol-whipped several times and had his cell phone taken from him.

The man suffered minor injuries due to the assault, but refused medical attention, police said.

Growalt turned himself in at the Egg Harbor Twp Police Department and was charged with aggravated assault with a weapon and armed robbery. A second male suspect involved in this incident has yet to be identified, according to police.
