Clean sweep for Ventnor challengers

VENTNOR – There will be a fresh set of faces running local government in Ventnor as all three challengers prevailed in Tuesday’s commissioners’ election.

Vote totals Tuesday night showed Theresa Kelly with 1,679, John Piatt at 1,550, Stephen Weintrob 1,577, Tim Kreischer 1,138, Joseph Schafer 1,228, and Sandy Vespertino 1,159.

There were two write in votes for a total of 2,693 votes cast out of 6,487 registered voters.

The Enough is Enough team won by a healthy margin.

"Ventnor citizens have set themselves free," Kelly said. "People wanted change.  This (the election result) is all very nice and I'm happy for the citizens."

Steve Weintrob said, "This election is for the people of Ventnor and we really believe enough is enough."

John Piatt said it was a great day for Ventnor.

"The people have spoken and we will give them that change that they want," Piatt said.  "The people of Ventnor will be involved in our government."

Mayor Tim Kreischer accepted defeat graciously.

"We ran a positive campaign, but the public has spoken," Kreischer said.  "Ventnor will go in a different direction.  I think it's the wrong direction, but this is what the people want and we will all live with it.

"I think we (Joe, Sandy and Tim) have left a lot of positives in this city and in the future the people will greatly benefit form what we have done."

Commissioner Sandy Vespertino said, "I'd rather lose as a team than individually.  I’m glad we're together."

Commissioner Joe Schafer said he was thankful to serve the people of Ventnor and "hopefully they'll want me to serve them again."

Kelly, Piatt and Weintrob celebrated their campaign victory at the Church of the Epiphany on Atlantic Avenue in Ventnor with all of the residents who supported them.  Their swearing in ceremony will take place at Ventnor City Hall on May 20.
