CAFRA OKs Shore Memorial expansion
SOMERS POINT — Shore Memorial Hospital and Scarborough Properties received the go-ahead this week from the state for the proposed 250,000-square-foot hospital expansion.
The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection issued a CAFRA permit for the project, which includes a 1,000-car parking garage and 85,000 square feet of medical office buildings divided among four buildings.
The state Coastal Area Facility Review Act permit encompasses land use approval for 190 residential condominiums to be located on the site formally occupied by Ocean Point Nursing Home.
The CAFRA approval marks the end of the environmental review process by the state as related to land use. The project was required to comply with environmental requirements, including those for water quality and storm water management and migrating birds.
Application was made to the agency in September 2007.
“The CAFRA permit marks a substantial milestone in completing the site plan application process,” said Albert L. Gutierrez, president and CEO of the Shore Memorial Health System. “We are pleased to take this step forward toward completion of our campus expansion.”
The local application remains before the Somers Point Planning Board.
