Man arrested in Galloway after three-hour standoff

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – Police barricaded a home in the 900 block of Aloe Street Monday, March 31 where a man with a handgun reportedly threatened to take his own life shortly before 9 a.m.

“Police received a call of a distraught male with a handgun,” according to Capt. Joseph P. Davies. “Officers secured a perimeter, diverted traffic from Aloe Street, and called for members of the Atlantic County Emergency Response Team and Galloway police hostage negotiators.”

After a three-hour standoff with negotiators, Davies said, the man left the house and was transported to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

Police received assistance from personnel at the Sonny Burke K-9 Training Center in Atlantic City along with their canine partners, the Atlantic County Emergency Management Command Center, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the Egg Harbor City Police Department and the Galloway Township Rescue Squad.
