Theft lands suspect in the doghouse

EGG HARBOR CITY – He should have known it would be the first place a dog would look.

Police said that an Egg Harbor City man wanted on a theft charge and outstanding warrants hid in a doghouse to elude capture by police.

Carlos Morales, 24, of Egg Harbor City fled into the woods after being spotted on the street at Fairmont and Liverpool avenues at 1:45 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, according to police.

Police Sgt. Elwood Solomon, who saw the suspect, began pursuit and called for assistance from Galloway Township police, who dispatched a K-9 unit to the scene.

"K-9 Officer Scott Winneberger and his partner Blaze conducted a track and located the suspect hiding inside a doghouse in the yard of a residence on Philadelphia Avenue," said Galloway Township Police Sgt. Kevin Mott.
"He was taken into custody without incident. Sgt. Pat Moran assisted in the apprehension."

Morales was charged by Egg Harbor City police with theft, resisting arrest and possession of stolen property.
He was taken to the Atlantic County jail, where he was held on $25,000 bail and several outstanding warrants from Galloway and Hamilton townships, according to police.
