Fire damages former Wheaton Factory

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP – Police and arson investigators sifted through the debris of the former Wheaton Factory building here Tuesday morning at Main Street and County Route 606 which burned Monday night.
No injuries were reported as a result of the general alarm blaze and the cause has not been determined.
Firefighters responded shortly before 6 p.m. Monday to the fire and remained into the early morning hours Tuesday. The building is located adjacent to Lake Lenape.
Firefighters from Mays Landing, Laureldale, Mizpah, Cologne, Farmington, Somers Point, Absecon, Galloway, Egg Harbor City, Egg Harbor Township, Germania, Landisville, Weymouth and Dorothy responded along with the Hamilton Township Rescue Squad, The Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
Electricity was temporarily disrupted Monday night to some homes and businesses near the fire scene.
