EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – Atlantic County Republicans officially opened their 2007 election headquarters here on Tuesday evening, Aug. 28.
About 150 people including candidates, politicians, volunteers and prospective Republicans filled the floor of the campaign headquarters.
The building has been open for several months now, but the grand opening was an opportunity to meet most of the GOP ticket and hear what they had to say.
It is the second time the county GOP has set up their central office at the vacant Wawa building on the Black Horse Pike in Cardiff.
Among the republican candidates who spoke at the opening were: John Amadeo of Margate, running for state assembly; John Bettis of Pleasantville running for Freeholder of District 1 (District 1 includes Pleasantville, Atlantic City and West Atlantic City); Richard DePamphilis of Linwood who is running for re-election as mayor in Linwood; Jake Glassey of Egg Harbor Township running for re-election to township committee, and Harold Kauffman of Northfield who is the Republican candidate for mayor in Northfield.
Atlantic County Chief of Staff Howard Kyle spoke on behalf of Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson.
Levinson was unable to attend the party headquarters opening because his daughter was hospitalized in Philadelphia, according to Keith Davis, county republican chairman.
Opening the meeting and dedication of the headquarters was state Sen. James “Sonny” McCullough, mayor of Egg Harbor Township, who is running to retain his Senate seat.
He spoke along with Joe McDevitt of Ventnor running for Freeholder-at-Large and Vince Polistina of Egg Harbor Township running for state Assembly.
The headquarters will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and be able to provide literature on issues, as well as voter registration information.
Hours will be expanded closer to the November general election.
